The next hour will be crucial for determining the likely westward extent of the channel island thorms as they head ne plus how many new cells look like breaking out over the channel ahead of the CF

Think it should maintain its intensity, as it’s perpetually being fed by very warm 850’s rocketing in off the continent. If anything, it taps into more juice in the mid levels the further E/NE it heads throughout the night!

So why didn’t the forecasts show this earlier?  (I’m looking at you Estofex)

btw we met at Friends Clump / Ashdown a few years ago didn’t we?

What a bust that was but ever since it’s been a place I consider for storms. An excellent location and the reason I’ve ended up in this pub right now, at this time of year, in this part of the country, localised entirely in this small town…

thanks are in order sir

It's great to have this warm slightly humid weather in May but I don't see anything spectacular lightning wise making it past the Sourh Coast at least for tonight.

Dew points are just about okay (>13c) but temperature gradients don't seem steep enough, both by location and by elevation.

Happy to be proved wrong as I love a good storm! ⚡⚡

Yes, cell between Swindon and Oxford. Flashes seen inland from an Isle of Wight webcam. Popping up everywhere down that way.

Don't know where they're hiding! I'm not far from that cell but can't see anything yet!

That'd be a direct hit for me although the North Downs are a pain in the weeble for shielding Medway.

That would be a direct hit of the active northern section for me too if that is accurate. Looks like its a massive chain that's going to affect most of the south east at some point during the middle of the night. Can't wait the last good storm to hit us nearly dropped a tornado on us.

Looks like the whole of the south east and a good chunk of southern England are going to get storms tonight. Like a traditional squall line but of thunderstorms
