Peaked at 24.2°c here in London today. Lots of sunshine. Warm, classic British summer day.

The models look like they are setting up a cracking period of weather, dry, reasonably sunny away from perhaps the far NW, very warm but cooler nights to help with sleeping.

The only concern is we are probably going to have another 10-15 days without a drop of rain in the SE and its already been a very dry year down here. Locally a lot of streams/lakes really starting to dry out and grass going quite yellow. Not anywhere near to the same extent as 2018 yet, but it may get there if the dry pattern doesn't reverse some point in the near future.

Speaking to my farmer friend in Skipton, he tells me that the summer so far in the South Dales has been fairly dry compared to some recent past summers. He reports a lot of cloudy days and not too much so far in the way of warm ☀  Here in Austrian Alps, summer got off to a miserable start but certainly notched up the heat over the past few weeks. Not much evidence of snow left on the higher peaks. Going by data looks like Southern Central Britain doing ok so far. Not sure about the Northern half of the kingdom. Would be interested if anyone can confirm that looks about right so far. I spent the first 2 weeks of June in Vancouver and no sign of a repeat of last years record breaking heatwave in BC. In fact it felt noticeably cool. Flying over the Coastal mountians and the interior Rockies showed up an abundance of snowfall remaining on the higher ranges ( compared to the other times I visited at this time of year).

It's been a very dry summer so far here in SE England. We've had some good sunny and warm weather too.

Yep, my connection down in Sussex report the same. Happy memories of my days down there, especially drinking lovely pints of Harveys best bitter in a nice pub beer garden !

It's been a classic NW/SE split Summer so far.

Cool, cloudy, damp, breezy and downright miserable the further North and West you go with the South East in drought like conditions. It's amazing how a mere 300 miles can make such a huge difference.

Northern Ireland received less than 70% of it's June average sunshine and little sign of any sun over the next couple of weeks, despite warming up a little from averages of 12C-16C to 16C-20C.

Thanks for that. Its does look like the drier conditions ebbing further north each summer with a marked defined zones. Interested rainfall figures for NI under the present conditions. Think similar results for South Dales so far. Hope it warms up for you with some nice sunshine.

Been a very dry June after a wet end to   May  with about an inch of rain in the last few days rescuing the crops.A feature has been days and days of warm drying southerly gales off  the Cairngorms which have left bare soil planted late with tatties and neeps in early June totally dried out. This  is worse on the sandy soils near the coast where even cereals are dying off with the lack of rain. A lot of sunshine ripening strawberries very fast  in June An old variety Cambridge Favourite  they are nearly finished almost a month ahead of their usual finish in the sixties and seventies. More evidence of a warming climate.

It's not been at all bad, these past few days, has it, Dan? Dry, bright, breezy and 22C is just about perfect?

Tough going for farmers, but luckily little risk to water supplies this year. In the groundwater dominated areas of the south, including the Thames, it generally takes two dry winters on the bounce to cause an issue. The reason why so many streams are low is not just because of the current lack of rain, but because of the dryish winter with limited groundwater recharge.

Not too bad today here so far started off with large amounts of cloud pretty much a grey over altogether but the sun is breaking through nicely large patches of blue sky but what is noticeable is the wind, as some would say it's blowing a hoolie out here  given that though the temps aren't fairing too bad

Getting some serious news over here about the drought and big heat in Northern Italy. Verona and the surrounding grape growing region is burnt to a cinder . Verona  is not too far away from the Austrian Border Region and we look almost temperate 250km to the north ! Have seen the destructive video of the summer avalanche high on one of Italys prominent graciers yesterday. Scary with temps of 10c plus at 3000m. Anyway, hope you lot up north in blighty get to see some welcome later this week.

Isn't 3000m normally above the permament snow line in the Alps?

It has been a fairly bog standard summer so far imby. But with what is forecast for the next couple of weeks (I realise that it's subject to change at any time), I have a feeling that July will turn out to be a really nice summer month with plenty of warm sunny days.

I hope we get a nice August for a change too. With last year's temps, but more sunshine.

Yes, it is. Variable from summer to summer . Quess ,10,000ft absl for Southern Alps  and a bit lower for Northern Alps. We seem to be in a period of Glacier retreat , yet with increased snow mass in winters.Strange combination, probably due to global heat up. I can say, since being out here from 2005, summer snow retention has declined markedly ( visual observation ). The stats tell the story. Another hot day in these parts.

It turned out glorious this afternoon once the cloud cleared now its full blue skies with the odd bit of fair weather cloud although it'll probably cloud over in the night and will be stuck with the stubborn cloud most of the morning but hopefully like today it will clear to leave another glorious afternoon with the possibility of temps being slightly warmer than today

Yeah it has, last year was the opposite though, was quite amusing seeing southerners on here moan about poor weather while Scots were bathing in sunshine.

Here in NW England (roughly in the middle between London and where you are) while it hasn’t been anything to write home about it hasn’t been a terrible June by any means. Just rather dry, rather on the cloudy side and rather mediocre temperatures. Certainly had far worse June’s! (2012 and 2019 come to mind.) Just a lot of rather drab weather, a bit like the weather this year so far really, not really anything of interest, it’s just been milder than average for the last six months.

Last year we had a warm, dry and sunny June and July. August was dry too, although rather cool and cloudy at times. Nothing too hot either apart from the third week of July, it was a very pleasant summer here.

Such a UK fax chart. We are the masters of getting 1030mb Highs building in with fronts draped all through. All that low pressure in Eastern Europe without a front in sight…

Quoting this in another thread so it’s not off topic.

Weak fronts within summer HIGH pressure can provide some of the best summer skies due to patches of Cirrus, Altocumulus and other mid/high level cloud.

Or, however, like yesterday they bring Stratocumulus .
