I don’t understand what they mean by a ‘mini-tornado’. It’s used all the time by the news and it just makes the event seem less serious than it is, despite the severe damage caused by this tornado in Calais.

That's exactly why they do it as the uk media STILL after all these years of documented evidence refuse to believe that we get Tornado's in this country (despite us getting about 100 a year). 😡 Been a pet peeve of mine for many years. There is no such thing as a "Mini" Tornado. It's either a Tornado or it isn't.

Had an amazing waterspout earlier over the Maldives, it developed from a local sea breeze thunderstorm and produced an anti-cyclonic vortex which picked up some water along the way, quite a treat especially as I missed the UK storms from Sunday. I know it shouldn’t be posted here but I could not find an Asian weather thread so i figured it would be better on here.

I'm not convinced we've seen the end of this bizarrely thundery mid-autumn period quite yet. The ECM continues to throw up precip.  from beyond Biscay right up to the weekend and possibly beyond. As we've seen just a couple of days ago, it only takes the right combination of mid-teen uppers and shortwaves coming in from the south for things to go bang

You can kinda live with Jun/Jul/Aug being so incredibly quiet when May/Sept/Oct do all the talking and make it an above average year!

I would settle for more of the same next year, but in an ideal world I'd like to see the return of my beloved high summer plumes!

Sunday 23rd was the 15th day of thunder heard this year here, making it equal for me to 2014, the most thundery year since 2006.

A bit late but we have another big thunderstorm here in Exeter in the early hours of Sunday 23rd, again about 3am, woke most of the surrounding area up I should imagine, huge flashes, torrential rain and the loudest thunder I've heard in a long while, was awesome.

It knocked the power out too which is a first for me as far as I know....
