Hopefully more details come clearer with timing today and tomorrow. Got part jobs at sites in Bradford and Leeds to do and I so don’t want to throw in snow chaos to the travel, given the hills in Bradford.

Certainly keeping the radar app handy. It’s saved me so many times in the past.

just woke up now and I was thinking before pulling up my blinds that it would be damp and overcast and when I saw that it was, it put a smile on my face because it was 100% predictable

Snow today, gone today 😂 it was nice surprise for about 3 hours. I hope everyone else who missed out on the white stuff in December have had a good dumping.

Updated met office warning from 7am tomorrow to 2pm Friday

Heavy snow has the potential to cause disruption on Thursday and Friday.

Reason for update

The warning area has been trimmed away from parts of central and northeast Scotland and moved from high to medium impacts.

An area of low pressure will move across the UK on Thursday and Friday with snow developing across Wales and central England early on Thursday morning. This is expected to move slowly north during the day, becoming slow-moving across north Wales, northern England, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland during the afternoon and evening before slowly clearing southeast on Friday.

Snow will likely turn to sleet or rain at times at lower elevations, especially in the south of the warning area, as well as near eastern coasts. At low levels including major cities such as Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle accumulations are expected to be limited with a small chance of 2-5 cm falling. However, significant snow accumulations are possible over hills of northern England (including populated areas of South and West Yorkshire), Northern Ireland and southern Scotland.

Here, 10-15 cm is expected quite widely above 100 metres, with a chance that 25-40 cm could fall in some places. Additionally, there is potential for strong winds, which may lead to blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow. Ice is likely to develop widely on Friday night as this system clears away.

Well we’ll see how things pan out because the current situation compared to forecasts not even 24 hours ago is in the region of 250 miles different!

As things stand the cold weather alert is still due to expire at 23:59 tomorrow, the met haven't updated it since Monday morning

Its been updated

"

Issued at: 10:40 on Wed 8 Mar 2023

There is a 90% probability of severe cold weather/icy conditions/heavy snow between 0900 on Wednesday 08 Mar and 0900 on Monday 13 Mar in parts of England. This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services. Please refer to the national Cold Weather Plan and your Trust's emergency plan for appropriate preventive action.

This is an extension to the previously issued alert on Monday. Very cold weather is expected across most of England this week, with widespread frosts overnight and temperatures struggling to rise much above freezing in some places during the day. A band of rain, sleet and snow will move across the southern half of England on Wednesday and overnight into Thursday, with icy stretches developing. To the north of this should stay dry, although a few snow showers are possible in the northeast, but very cold temperatures will see a severe frost develop. On Thursday the focus shifts slightly further northwards, with another band of sleet and snow pushing northeastwards across central and northern England. There is some uncertainty as to how this band progresses, with current forecasts bringing that area of sleet and snow back southeastwards on Friday to affect parts of southern England once again. Further outbreaks of snow are possible over the weekend, as well as widespread frosts and icy stretches. Milder temperatures look like the may start to encroach from the southwest through Sunday, confidence on this however is currently low."

Down here in the far south we've had our snow lot, probably going to be a very wet 48hr period coming up but can't complain as it is needed.

Pleased with the 5cms we ended up with though, nice to get a proper covering, first since Jan 2021, though we have had two dusting between those two.

If the met radar is anything to go by, non stop snow from 12pm today until 12pm Friday afternoon.

A radar that looks into the future ?

Or maybe it is a forecast that might not be guaranteed to be accurate.

Is it down to my neck of the woods yet? Todays precip seems to have gone left and right of us so far 🙄

Falling snow but not settling...been coming down for several hours now.. I feel tomorrow may bring more into the game than currently thought.

Just look how much further North this lot as got..a few days back some were saying it would miss the channel...all to play for.

Tell you what...not seeing snow fall is disappointing...seeing it fall for hours without even a dusting to show for it is even more disappointing.

Well, the snow seems to have arrived, settled, then broken down with a thaw setting in, and now mild air is knocking on the door all in the space of 12 hours. Never used to happen like this 20 years ago.😞

It's Meteorological Spring!

We're in March. The slush fest was always likely without some really deep cold air over us. Totally expected, and why i've never been overly enthusiastic about this cold spell.

To be fair we had lying snow on the ground for over a week in December - and I do remember times in the past, when spring was just around the corner, when fairly intense snowfall was followed by a very swift melt. I have a feeling this happened in April 2006

Yep, that week in December was wonderful. Thick lying snow, little to no melt for a week, it's the perfect time of year to get snow.

Ain't that the truth! It's snowed non-stop since 8 this morning here, not so much a mm of accumulation to show for it...

I mentioned first thing this morning , the snow needs an adrenalin jab to produce 5-10cm , never looked like happening BUT this afternoons and evenings effort  could well deliver.

Time will tell

If we can see it. 😉

March so far has been spectacularly dull, aside from the 2nd.

Jesus - BBC's main story is currently 'Snow and Ice' live....  you click the link and it's mostly pictures of snow from the Glens of Scotland and a group of cold water swimmers in the North Sea !

All this over what is effectively a dull wet day with outbreaks of sleet !! What have we become as a nation..

And tonight well yes there could be some snow for the midlands but look at those uppers by 9am all the way up to the Midlands, any snow that falls is going to turn into slush and melt from the moment people wake up lol

Damp squib anyone?!

Totally anticipated though. I could never see some of the ridiculous model charts over the last week actually verifying into reality…

That looks fab for around here. The ground round here at its lowest is still 400+ feet..and a lot of ground above 200metres.

But that looks very poor away from the Central Midlands South I must admit..thats gonna p off a fair few on the forum who have chased so hard..But the weather has no friends or enemies.
