Model discussion - hunt for cold - Christmas countdown

Paul
Message added by Paul,

Please remember this is a model based discussion - some chat is ok, but a weather model related theme should run throughout.

The guiding principles of everyone's participation in this thread are:
Be kind -- Stay on topic -- Share your knowledge -- Be polite -- Be honest -- Be tolerant -- Be family friendly

For a less frenetic look at the models head over to the alternate model discussion

Met app - temperatures are increasing every 12 hrs!

Ignore, I think the person who inputs the info gets mixed up - if this went drastically wrong it wouldn’t be 7c

Any westerly push of the Scandi trough is being held back, again the Atlantic low is a bit slower. Interestingly the shortwave is now close to the east coast so we may be able to quickly establish an east/north easterly on this run.

Where did you get that from? The express?

Try the Met Office, 8c end of the week.
Slightly at odds though, but then they don’t knee jerk in these things.

They haven’t been updated since mid September , it’ll be 2-3c at best on Xmas day

It's straight from the UKV model, and that does show milder temps creeping in to the south midweek onwards. Double figures by the end of the week. Of course, things may change..

And are we really going to take a Met Office max temp for a week ahead of us as all that significant when A. we have models at hand and B. they can be notoriously wrong on the actual day sometimes? Cmon.

I know it’s the UKV, but it’s very wrong - according to the whole of today’s output!! Great ECM at T144 by the way

They are no more accurate than the current models at 8/9 days out are they??

Looks like next week is going to be much milder than predicted with temperatures at 7c rather than 2-3c predicted by the Met Office just yesterday - for my location.

I do hope you are not just looking at weather apps and assuming they are 'forecasts'.  It doesn't validate until it has happened.
